Ladies 4s hit the road up north to Windermere!

Ladies 4s started their new season going head to head with last seasons strong players of Windermere. Having experienced some different and varied routes to avoid the temporary traffic lights, the team managed to get on the pitch with enough to start on time.

Despite some good passing, Windermere took advantage of L4 not settling into their positions and opened the scoring early into the first half with some fast paced work and an excellent sweep from the back line which flew up in the top left corner. Garstang managed to break through with strong hit outs on a number of occasions with some great play from all the team, using the space of the pitch. Katie Adamson-Benz had two opportunities to strike from the top of D but was unable to penetrate past Windermere's wall of defence. Garstang soon settled and play was end to end with plenty of clean play and skill on display. Garstang began to distribute the ball well with some great attacking runs by Meesha Davis and Jess Hilliard. Windermere managed another goal in the first half but that did not deter Garstang with plenty of time and everything to play for. Some great defensive teamwork saw Helen Mather pass to Katie Adamson-Benz who sent it straight up to Maisie Clash up front. Maisie worked with Jo Clapham and Jo caught 2 rebounds off the keepers pads before they went 2 on 1. Jo kept focussed and scored Garstang's first goal, giving the team a well deserved boost of confidence.

The second half came and Emelia stayed strong in goal, providing clear direction from the back for the defence. The defence were just as vocal and worked well with newcomer Ali Cutler supporting Vicky Cookson and Alison Kellet in their usual defensive positions. Windermere increased their lead to 3-1 but Garstang came back quickly with Maisie Clash sweeping her ball past the keeper making it 2-3. Garstang kept the pressure on their defence with Summer Millington, Holly Marsh and Meesha Davis creating space. The goals kept on coming and Garstang were 3-4 down until the last few minutes when the final goal was scored resulting in a final score of 5-3 to Windermere.

Regardless of the final score, the team received plenty of praise from both umpires and spectators. To leave it in the words of the oppositions coach - 'you certainly had them rattled, thanks for a great game and well done'.
