Our 1st team play in the top tier of the England Hockey North West Area - the Premier Division.
Recent history:
The 1st team played at Regional level for the first time in 2012/13 (the highest division any Garstang team had played) after a dramatic play off with Springfields (Fylde) 2nd team which ended in penalty flicks. After relegation in 2013/14, they bounced straight back going unbeaten and winning the Lancashire Central Womens Hockey League Premier Division and the Caley Trophy against Lancaster & Morecambe 1st team after penalty flicks. In 2015/16, the team finished 2nd, their then highest finish to date until 2019/20 when they won Division 2 West in dramatic fashion. Having been in the runner up spot for the majority of the season, the final weekend meant they had to win a lunchtime game (which they did) and Longridge draw (which they did) or lose away to Alderley Edge in their late pushback. The team also made it through to the Quarter Finals of the Tier 2 Championships, England Hockey's Cup Competition. Apart from Sheffield, we were the only representatives left in the competition from the north of England. We unfortunately had to concede the tie due to Covid and the competition itself fell foul to the virus too. The 2020/21 season was severely disrupted due to Covid and was abandoned. We were only able to play as and when the restrictions permitted. An informal competition - 'The Lancashire Cup' - was set up by our Head Coach and enabled regional level clubs to play competitive games around those restrictions; a welcome relief and it was narrowly won by Liverpool Sefton. 2021/22 was the first season in the new nationally restructured format and following promotion in 2020, where they now compete one division below 'Conference level'. In 2023/24 the team finished a very creditable 5th place.
Coached by Tom Davidson and Steve Foy, the first team train for indoors on Tuesday (indoor session, 7.30-8.30pm) and Thursday nights for outdoor hockey from 7-8:30pm at Garstang Community Academy. Get in touch with the Head Coach if this is your level and you fancy joining the club.
